Terms
Last updated 2026-11-04.
These terms cover your use of Rostrum, the Mac app, and any purchase of Rostrum Pro. Rostrum is made by Huy Nguyen (“we”). By downloading or using Rostrum, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use it.
The app
Rostrum has a free version and a paid version, Rostrum Pro. You may use either for your own study on Macs you control. You must be at least 13, and if you are under the age of adulthood where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you. To buy Rostrum Pro you must be old enough to agree to Link’s terms where you live, or have a parent or guardian buy it for you.
You may not resell Rostrum, or copy, reverse engineer or modify it, except where the law allows this regardless of these terms. Rostrum includes open-source components under their own licenses, listed in Settings ▸ About.
Rostrum Pro
Rostrum Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It gives you a personal license code that unlocks Pro features in Rostrum. The code has your name on it. Do not share or publish it. We may turn off a code that has been refunded, charged back, shared publicly or obtained by fraud. Losing Pro does not delete your data.
A code bought or given to you lasts as long as Rostrum Pro is offered, unless it shows an end date. We may change features over time and do not promise that any feature will stay in Rostrum forever. A future major version may be sold separately.
Free codes given to early users and testers can be turned off if they are shared.
Payment and refunds
Purchases are handled by Stripe and sold through Link, which is the merchant of record. Link’s own terms apply to the payment. The price shown at checkout includes any sales tax, VAT or GST.
If Rostrum Pro does not work for you, email [email protected] within 30 days of buying and we will refund you. A refund turns off your code. Any right you have to a refund under the law of where you live is not affected.
Your recordings and work
What you make in Rostrum is yours. It stays on your Mac, as our privacy page explains. You are responsible for backing it up.
You are responsible for having permission to record. Laws and school rules on recording lectures and conversations differ, and some places require everyone’s consent. Follow your school’s academic integrity rules, including on AI and on sharing course material.
AI and accuracy
AI features are optional and use a provider you choose, under that provider’s terms and at your own cost. Keep your key private. We do not control what a provider does or returns.
Transcripts, notes, summaries, quiz answers, tutor answers, due dates and other automatic results can be wrong. Check anything that matters against your course material. Rostrum is a study aid and does not replace your classes, instructors or your own judgment.
No warranty
Rostrum is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not promise that it will be error free, that it will never lose data, or that it will work with every future version of macOS, Canvas or any AI provider.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost data, missed deadlines or grades. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for Rostrum Pro, or $20 if you paid nothing. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Ending use
You can stop using Rostrum at any time by deleting it. These terms end for you if you break them, and we may then turn off your code. Your data stays on your Mac.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and using Rostrum after a change means you accept it. A change will not reduce what you already paid for without giving you the choice of a refund.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. This does not take away any consumer rights you have where you live.
